EB-2 (Employment-Based Second Preference)
« Back to Glossary IndexEB-2 is a U.S. employment-based immigrant visa (Green Card) category for professionals with advanced degrees or exceptional ability in the sciences, arts, or business.
Recruitment Context
Candidates with EB-2 status are either applying for or have obtained a U.S. Green Card through the EB-2 category. Many are highly skilled professionals in fields such as IT, engineering, healthcare, finance, and research. Recruiters may also encounter candidates applying through the National Interest Waiver (NIW), which can allow self-petitioning without a job offer.
EB-2 Categories:
- EB-2 Advanced Degree: Professionals with a master’s degree or higher (or a bachelor’s degree plus five years of progressive experience).
- EB-2 Exceptional Ability: Individuals with exceptional ability in the sciences, arts, or business.
- EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver): Eligible individuals may self-petition if their work is considered to benefit the United States.
